FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If I mail my payment, when is the latest I can send it for discount, face and penalty periods?

The status of all mailed payments is determined by the postmark on the envelope. If a payment is postmarked within the date allowed for timely payment, it will be accepted and processed for that given period. If a payment bears a private postal meter stamp and is subsequently over-stamped by the U.S. Postal Service with a later post marked date, the U.S.P.S. post mark is considered the date mailed. If an envelope bears no post mark date, it must be received no later than the deadline date to be considered timely.

Township/County Taxes: A discount payment for Township/County taxes must be postmarked by April 30. A face payment for Township/County taxes must be postmarked by June 30. In order for Township/County taxes to not be considered delinquent, they must be postmarked by December 31. Remember personal checks are NOT accepted after December 15.

School Taxes: A discount payment for School taxes must be postmarked by August 31. A face payment for School taxes must be postmarked by October 31. In order for School taxes to not be considered delinquent, they must be postmarked by December 31. Remember personal checks are NOT accepted after December 15.

What happens if a payment or check is returned unpaid by my bank?

All Township offices charge a check/payment return fee of $40.00 for unpaid items. This fee, in part, covers the bank charge the township is assessed and also the additional administrative cost of reversing the payment and notifying the payee.

What if I don't receive a tax bill?

If you fail to receive your tax bill, call the Tax Collector’s Office. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt taxes. You are responsible for obtaining your tax bill and paying the taxes on time.

How do I obtain a receipt if I mail in my tax payment?

You should send your entire bill in a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope). The tax collector will stamp the top portion and mail it back to you.

Who do I make my check out to?

All checks should be made payable to Mt. Carmel Township Tax Collector.

What is the best way to make a payment?

There are two ways you can pay taxes:

  1. In person at the Tax Collector's Office
  2. By mailing your payment to: Mt. Carmel Township Tax Collector, PO Box 352 Mt. Carmel, PA 17851

You must bring or mail the appropriate tax bill stub for the period being paid. This stub is validated and kept on file to provide an audit trail should any question regarding payment arise in the future.
